Checking seat availability before booking saves time and helps you compare classes, dates, and quotas. Rail 24 lets you check Sleeper, AC 3-Tier, 2-Tier, First AC, Chair Car, and Economy AC availability without logging in to IRCTC.
Understanding waitlist codes & confirmation probabilities
If tickets are not available, you will see waitlist statuses. Here is what they mean:
- GNWL (General Waitlist): Highest confirmation probability. These tickets are issued for passengers boarding at the originating station.
- RLWL (Remote Location Waitlist): Moderate confirmation probability. Issued for intermediate stations along the route.
- PQWL (Pooled Quota Waitlist): Low confirmation probability. Shared between multiple smaller intermediate stations.
How to check availability on Rail 24
- Open Check Availability.
- Enter train number, from station, to station, and journey date.
- Select your class and quota (GN for General, TQ for Tatkal, LD for Ladies).
- Click Check Availability to see current seat count and waitlist position.
