Indian Railways typically prepares the reservation chart about 4 hours before train departure (timing varies by zone and train). After chart preparation, PNR shows final coach and berth for CNF/RAC, and waitlisted tickets are dropped if not cleared.

Chart preparation is when Indian Railways finalises passenger lists and berth allocation. Your PNR status may change from WL to RAC/CNF until the chart is prepared.

What happens at chart preparation

  • Confirmed and RAC passengers get final coach/berth numbers.
  • Uncleared WL tickets are marked dropped — do not travel.
  • Platform numbers become more reliable.
